Remembering those we lost
In Memoriam

Alan Kenneth Ryker
Alan Kenneth Ryker, a founding member of Naples Pathways Coalition and a passionate advocate for safe, active living, passed away on March 14, 2026, at the age of 83. A longtime Naples resident, Alan helped shape the vision of a more walkable and bikeable community, leaving a lasting impact on Naples.
After a successful career that took him around the world, Alan and his beloved wife, Cris, made Naples their home in 1990. He quickly became a tireless champion for cycling and outdoor activity, helping advance bike paths, sidewalks, and projects like the Gordon River Greenway. As one of NPC’s original founders, Alan believed deeply in creating safe, accessible spaces for people to walk and bike.
For more than three decades, Alan could be found riding throughout Naples and beyond, often recognized as the unmistakable “giraffe” on a bicycle. A natural teacher and generous spirit, he touched countless lives with his kindness, patience, and love of adventure.
Alan is survived by his wife, Cris; daughters Lori Ryker and Erika Lavin; grandchildren and great-granddaughter. His legacy lives on in the community he helped build, and in every path we ride and walk.

Richard Downing Housh
Richard Downing Housh, a founding member of Naples Pathways Coalition and lifelong community builder, passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 76. A resident of both Naples, Florida and Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard played a pivotal role in advancing the vision of safer, more connected communities through walking and biking.
An entrepreneur and innovator, Richard built a successful career in computerized controls and energy management, while mentoring others and launching many careers along the way. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was deeply committed to service—supporting causes such as Habitat for Humanity of Collier County and championing environmental preservation and the arts.
Richard’s passion for cycling and active living led him to help found Naples Pathways Coalition, where he advocated for safe pathways and a healthier, more accessible community for all. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his sons Jason, Joshua, and Richard; and his grandchildren and extended family.
Richard’s legacy lives on in the paths he helped inspire and the community he worked to strengthen.
