The past three years Naples Pathways Coalition and the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce have published the City of Naples Bicycle Map. It is a useful and easy to read map that notes the recommended cycling routes in the City. Tourists use it to get around, whether on foot, bike or car. We have heard from the Visitor's Center that this is the most often requested map.

Kudos to Bayshore residents in Naples, who decided to make their community more bike-friendly by painting green bike lanes in each direction along a 1.5 miles stretch of Bayshore Drive, from U.S. 41 east to Thomasson Drive. The four-foot wide, green lanes are meant to make motorists more aware of cyclists.

Recently, I re-read Tom Vanderbilt’s excellent book, Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What It Says About Us). As you might expect, Vanderbilt writes primarily about automobile traffic, but he has some interesting (and surprising) things to say about bicycles, as well.
